First they're sour. Then they're sweet. Then they're... beer?

That's right! Legion Brewing's newest beer release will taste just like one of our favorite childhood candies, Sour Patch Kids.

This unique new sour beer was actually brewed in collaboration with the folks at CharlotteFive.

First, CharlotteFive asked its readers what candy they'd want to taste in a Legion brew. Once Sour Patch Kids were declared the winner, CharlotteFive readers were asked to submit name suggestions for the beer itself. After reviewing all of the submissions, the Legion brew team announced the winning name ("Sour Draft Kids") and awarded two tickets to QCBF 2019 to Sarah Chestnut for submitting the suggestion.

The Beer: Sour Draft Kids

Your first chance to taste Legion Brewing's new Sour Patch Kids-inspired beer release will be this Saturday 2/2 at Queen City Brewers Festival. This beautifully pink kettle sour will be a mix of tart and sweet fruit flavors, reminiscent of one of our favorite childhood candies.

But if you can't make it to QCBF (or if you just love the beer so much you want to try it again!), there will also be a Sour Draft Kids release party in the Legion taproom on Sunday 2/3.

The Brewery: Legion Brewing

Legion Brewing was the first brewery to set up camp in Plaza Midwood two years ago, and it is now the first brewery to open in SouthPark! Legion's tagline is "Friends and Beer," and as a space, it's set up perfectly to enjoy both of those things.

At the original Plaza Midwood location, before you walk through the front doors of the brewery, you'll notice a cozy patio space set up with picnic tables, benches, umbrellas, and even a fire pit so that you can enjoy your brews in the great outdoors. Inside, you'll find an inviting taproom with 20 beer taps, as well as cider, wine, and kombucha to choose from. Through the double doors at the back of the taproom, you can also check out the mezzanine, where you'll overlook the production facility where the brewers are hard at work creating Charlotte favorites like Juicy Jay and Carolina Sparkle Party.

If you haven’t been to the new SouthPark location yet, you can expect almost triple the square footage and over double the taps. With 49 taps, 12,000 square feet, local spirits, a huuuuuge food menu, and the same friendly vibes, you'll fall in love with the new space from the moment you step inside.

The Beer Fitness Activities: The Legion-dary Run & Namastay at Legion

On Thursdays at 6:30 PM, you can join the free Legion-dary Run for a 4.4 mile route through Plaza Midwood, then stick around for a beer or two in the original taproom with the rest of the runners.

If yoga is more your speed, you can stop by the Plaza Midwood location on Sundays at 12:30 PM for Namastay at Legion, where $7 gets you the class and a beer. This class is taught by Luis, a bartender at Legion and a yoga instructor at Yoga One, Core Power Yoga, and Charlotte Yoga. It's an all-levels flow, so whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, it will work for you! Luis offer modifications to increase or decrease the difficulty of a pose to fit your needs.
