Summer is just around the corner, and that means two things for our team of active beer-lovers.

First, it means it's time to start looking for the lightest, most refreshing craft beers on the market to sip in the sunshine this season.

Second, it means we're on the hunt for a craft beer that doesn't pack too many carbs or calories (who wants to feel bloated by the pool with something heavy and high ABV?) but that does pack plenty of flavor (i.e., not the standard "watered down and skunked" taste you get from some light beer options).

And, y'all—that means that we're saying "thank u, next" to a LOT of beers.

Thankfully, our beer of the week isn't one of 'em. It checks off all the boxes above and then some.

Keep reading to learn more about how we found our perfect match, and the many dates we plan to go on together this summer.

The Beer: Swipe Light

Summer and Southern Tier Brewing Co.'s latest beer release? It's a match! If you're looking for a refreshing, easy drinking craft beer to sip all summer long, Swipe Light is it. This crushable 4% ABV light beer has only 110 calories, but it doesn't sacrifice flavor like some other light beers do. It boasts a subtle Citra and Mosaic hop character, a touch of malt sweetness, and a fresh citrus aroma. Get a 12-pack or a 6-pack of cans to keep on hand as temperatures start to climb—it's the ideal clean, bright beer to grab after a tough workout, or to bring along wherever this summer takes you.

The Brewery: Southern Tier Brewing Co.

Southern Tier Brewing Co. was founded in 2002 in Lakewood, NY by upstate New Yorkers Phineas and Sara DeMink. In the 17 years since, the brewery has remained rooted in Lakewood, but has grown beyond its home base to two brewpubs (The Empty Pint and Brewhouse Tasting) and expanded its offerings beyond beer with the founding of Southern Tier Distillery.

Southern Tier also recently announced a partnership with Victory Brewing, opening satellite brewpubs in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and of course, right here in Charlotte at "Brewers at 4001 Yancey."

The Space: Brewers at 4001 Yancey

The 28,000 sq. ft. space that is now Brewers at 4001 Yancey was once home to Bowers Fibers, a textile company in operation since 1946. Now, it's a fully functioning brewery featuring an inviting community taproom with private, semi-private, and public spaces both indoors and outdoors (including three gigantic dog-friendly patios!) fit for any occasion.

They offer year-round and seasonal Southern Tier and Victory beers, of course, as well as craft spirit cocktails and wine. Plus, they've got a full-service culinary team and a menu inspired by their beer line-up, ranging from appetizers to desserts and beyond.
