Beer of the Week: Sycamore Brewing, "Rainbow Dust"
Mar 24, 2018
Maybe you know Sycamore Brewing from past experiences at Food Truck Friday, an ever-changing showcase of Charlotte's finest food trucks hosted in the brewery's parking lot and the grassy area behind their outdoor bar. Or maybe you've just spent an afternoon or two (or fifty) drinking beer and listening to live music on their massive patio in the heart of Charlotte's Historic South End.
When people talk about Sycamore, so much of what they have to say is about the brewery's incredible location, space, and events—all for good reason! But we're here to focus on their beer. Specifically, one of their latest and most magical can releases, the "Rainbow Dust" IPA.
Read on to learn more about our local beer of the week, the brewery it came from, and the fitness activities (and other upcoming events) they've got to offer Charlotte's active beer-lovers.
The Beer: "Rainbow Dust"
This bright, tropical IPA is like magic in a can! It's just the beer you need to celebrate the arrival of spring in Charlotte. The 7.1% ABV brew is bursting with six rare hop varieties from around the world, along with flavors of melon, berries, and tropical fruit. Each sip starts off juicy, and is followed by a burst of fruit flavor—then the hoppiness descends. Complex, yet approachable, it's just the refreshing brew you need after Sycamore's run club, yoga class, or monthly dog walk.
The Brewery: Sycamore Brewing
Sycamore Brewing opened its doors back in 2013 with the goal of brewing easy-drinking craft beer with the freshest ingredients possible. Five years later, the brewery has grown both its physical space (you should see their beer garden) and their distribution, to the point where it would be tough to find anyone in Charlotte who isn't familiar with Sycamore Brewing.
One thing this South End brewery is known for is hosting regular events to bring together the local community. For instance, this month they've got their first Family Fun Day & Brunch of the year coming up on April 8. Brunch at this event will be provided by TIN Kitchen (with a kid's menu), and there will be live music, sidewalk chalk, BYOB (bring your own ball), and the first Front Porch Sunday of the season happening right next door!
And on April 14, they'll be hosting Spring Fest 2018, where you can celebrate spring's arrival in Charlotte with live music on two stages by some of the regions best talent, indoor and outdoor beer (and cider) stations, Prosecco pops, and more.
Check out Sycamore Brewing's Facebook events to keep up with what they've got going on in the brewery and the beer garden in the coming months.
The Fitness Activities: Run Club, Yoga & A Monthly Dog Walk
You can join the Sycamore Brewing Run Club on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Saturdays at 11:30 AM for a 1, 3, or 5 mile route along the Light Rail Trail. The run itself is free to join, plus runners also get a 25% off coupon to use at Sycamore after they're done logging their miles.
Prefer to bend for your beer? As of May 2, Sycamore Brewing Yoga will be back on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in the grassy area behind the beer garden. Class is $10 for a drop-in (or lower with an NC Yoga Bar passport), and yogis get 25% off their first beer after class. Instructors vary each week, but this is always an all-levels class suitable for both beginners and seasoned yogis alike.
If you're looking for a low-key fitness activity that will get your pup's energy out, come on out to the Skip & Sip dog walk at Sycamore Brewing every Tuesday at 6 PM. This free, 1.5-mile guided, group dog walk is led by Skipper. Anyone who participates will get a 25% off coupon to use at Sycamore after the walk!
