Drink of the Week: Wild Blossom Cider, "Island Freeze"
Jun 16, 2018
Did you guys know that Sycamore Brewing started its own cider line, Wild Blossom Cider? We knew that Sycamore had a variety of all natural, gluten-free ciders on tap to choose from, but we had no idea that they were the ones actually crafting it!
It all started with Sycamore's head brewer, Brad Bergman, who went to Appalachian State University and studied chemistry with an emphasis in Brewing Science.
According to Sycamore's website, "His love for cider began during his time at Angry Orchard, Boston Beer Company/Sam Adams. He took his love to Michigan, where he worked as head Brewer at Petoskey Brewing and he began to brew his own ciders, using local produce and juices from a local farm called Kings Orchard near Central Lake Michigan." Brad joined the Sycamore team in March, and he brought his his brewing expertise and cider wizardry along with him.
Which brings us to our Drink of the Week, "Island Freeze." Find out more about this frozen, cider-and-wine-based beverage, where it was made, and more.
The Drink: "Island Freeze"
When Sycamore Brewing started its own cider line, Wild Blossom Cider, it started with two primary flavors: Rosé Cider and Brut Cider. Now, you can also get two flavors of frosé made with these ciders. There's the classic strawberry frosé, of course. And then there's "Island Freeze," which features Wild Blossom Brut Cider, Pinot Grigio, and copious amounts of pineapple, mango, and a touch of agave syrup. This 7.9% ABV frozen beverage is bursting with ripe tropical fruit flavors, perfect for enjoying in the Carolina sunshine.
The Cidery: Wild Blossom Cider
Now, Wild Blossom Cider is crafted in Sycamore’s 54,000 sq. ft. facility in North End. You can find two primary flavors of Wild Blossom Cider on tap at Sycamore Brewing, including Rosé Cider and Brut Cider—as well two "frosé" concoctions created using these ciders as a base, the Strawberry Frosé and the "Island Freeze."
The Rosé Cider, made with Pacific Northwest apples, is beautifully pink with a delicate sweetness from the additions of cranberries and peaches. The Brut Cider, on the other hand, has a flavor profile that is dry, crisp, and refreshing. Both ciders are all natural, gluten-free and crafted with the finest ingredients in the Carolinas.
Even more exciting: every Tuesday, you can get wine, cider, and frosé at half price at Sycamore Brewing! You now know all of the cider and frosé options available, but you can also choose from Sycamore's wine selection, which includes: Canella Prosecco (Italy), Rotari Brut (Italy), La Galope Rose (France), Underwood Rosé Cans (Oregon), Acrobat Pinot Noir (Oregon), and Acrobat Pinot Gris (Oregon).
