If you're a yogi living in Charlotte, chances are that you're familiar with Tarra Dahlke—but you probably know her by her Instagram handle, @QCyogi.foodie. Maybe you've even checked out her blog, where you can learn more about new restaurants in the Queen City, get recipes, read about her travels, and find out where she teaches yoga.

We reached out to Tarra to learn a bit more about what it's like to teach brewery yoga in Charlotte, to eat your way around the city, and to be known by your Instagram handle.

Name: Tarra Dahlke
Age: 25
Occupation: Assistant Buyer at Belk; Yoga Instructor at Charlotte Yoga, Lenny Boy Brewing, Stax Yoga, and OMB Yoga on Tap
Neighborhood in Charlotte: Elizabeth

How long have you been doing yoga? Six years

How long have you been a yoga instructor? A year and a half

Which yoga classes do you teach (both brewery yoga and non-brewery yoga)? Non-brewery yoga, I teach at Charlotte Yoga Tuesdays at 7 PM (South End) and Wednesdays 7 Pm (Park Studio), in addition to subbing other classes on nights and weekends. I also teach at Stax Yoga, where I sub occasionally on Saturday mornings.

Brewery yoga, I teach at Lenny Boy Brewing when I can on Saturday mornings at 10 AM (the next class I'll teach there is May 13!) and at OMB Yoga on Tap on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM (I'll teach there again on August 1).

What made you start doing yoga? I took a college course as a fun extra credit class and quickly became hooked. As an athlete and a runner, yoga helped alleviate my back pain, while increasing range of motion through strength and flexibility. I also fell in love with the way a yoga class could release stress and challenge me physically and mentally.

What’s your favorite part of teaching brewery yoga? The energetic community feel of bringing yogis of all levels together to sweat it out and work for their beer. It Is always a fun crowd of people, who are there to have a good time and not take themselves too seriously. I love meeting new people and enjoy the social scene after class, getting to know my students over a cold one!

What has been the most challenging part of teaching yoga for you? Finding the time outside my day job to teach as much as I'd like, and having energy after a long work day to lead a powerful class.

Which is your favorite yoga pose? Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Stand) because it reminds me that in life, sometimes we just need to flip our perspective. There are so many variations of this pose that I love playing around with.

What’s one thing you would want to tell somebody who was considering attending a brewery yoga class? The hardest part is getting there! Just show up and be motivated by the beer waiting for you afterwards to try something new. I know a lot of people whose first-ever yoga class was at a brewery, and whether they were dragged by a friend or showed up alone, they're glad they went.

What do you want people to know about your yoga studio? We invite you to show up with an open heart and be prepared for a hot, sweaty, powerful flow that will leave you detoxed and empowered to take on the rest of your day! We have a fun group of teachers with all different backgrounds, but we share a strong passion for the gift of yoga and are eager to share that with you!

What’s your favorite beer in Charlotte? Heist Brewery's Raspberry Saison (limited availability).
