Co-founders Alicia and Mel a knack for making connections with individuals who want to utilize their talents to help grow the beer fitness community. Brielle Stephenson's connection with Mel and Alicia has been valuable since day one.

Brielle began as WFYB's "Events Coordinator," working with breweries and instructors to set up beer fitness activities hosted by the WFYB team. She was responsible for planning events such as the Rock Box Charity Events, which you may have sweat your butt off at before!

Fast forward a few months later, when WFYB stopped hosting events and re-focused on being the ultimate directory of beer fitness activities — and Brielle transitioned to her role as a Brand Ambassador.

In this Brand Ambassador role, Brielle uses her savvy social media skills and her warm personality to enlighten her community on all things beer fitness. Between her husband, full time job, and adorable Aussie pup Charlie, Brielle still manages to attend various run clubs and yoga classes throughout the week. And yes, you can most certainly catch her at miscellaneous MiSFIT cardio dance classes!

How did you first find out about Work For Your Beer?

When I moved to Charlotte, I knew a few of the breweries offered fitness classes. I searched online to find a listing of all the classes and immediately found Work For Your Beer! Thanks, Google, for always knowing exactly what I want.

What made you want to be a part of the Work For Your Beer community?

Work For Your Beer offers a great connection for our local Charlotte breweries and fitness enthusiasts (two of my favorite things). I really enjoy being a part of this community, so I naturally wanted to be a part of Work For Your Beer, who helped bring this community together.

How long have you been attending fitness classes (in general)?

A while... About six years. As a former cheerleader when I wanted to start “working out” it seemed obvious to go to Zumba classes. From there I just started to branch out to BodyPump, bootcamps, kickboxing, and cycling.

Which brewery fitness classes do you attend?

I enjoy all the brewery fitness classes, but usually I seek out the yoga classes and run clubs. Once in a while I really enjoy a dance/zumba class to de-stress and have fun. I also love the dog walking events when it is nice out.

What motivates you to work out?

Working out is part of my overall healthy lifestyle. It is definitely a must have for me, and I stay motivated by gravitating to the workouts that are fun and make me feel great afterward!

What’s your go-to pump up song?

I am terrible about selecting music and remembering songs, so I stick to different “stations.” My go-to stations are Justin Timberlake radio, Bruno Mars radio and Lady Gaga radio.

What made you start attending brewery fitness classes?

Who doesn’t want to attend an event that includes 2 of their favorite things (craft beer + fitness)?! It seemed like a genius idea to me and a no brainer to try out.

What is your favorite kind of brewery fitness class?

I really enjoy the one-time special events that benefit a charity or feature something special such as a new fitness routine or studio.

What’s your favorite part of going to brewery fitness classes?

To stay motivated to workout, I like variety. So my favorite part is the feeling of something new/different by working out at a brewery.

Which brewery fitness class has been the most challenging for you?

Some of the outdoor bootcamp classes are the most challenging for me especially when you are battling the elements such as a hot summer! The instructors from Camp Gladiator always kick my butt!

What’s one thing you would want to tell somebody who was considering attending a brewery fitness class?

Just do it! And if at first you don’t succeed, try again!

All the classes and breweries are so different, so you have to find the ones that fit your personality best. Think of Goldilocks finding her perfect chair and porridge, you need to find your perfect workout/beer combo.

What’s your favorite beer (or ‘booch) in Charlotte?

Free Range Two Wild & Crazy Guys, a seasonal coffee wild ale…Hopefully it becomes a year-round brew soon (hint hint, Free Range Brewing!)

Why do you love Work For Your Beer?

It seems cliché, but definitely the community. I have made some great friends and met a lot of great people all while getting in a workout.
