So, you've decided you want to start running. Good for you! You're making a decision that's not only fantastic for your physical health, but your mental health—not to mention, you're going to meet all kinds of awesome new people in the running community.

Here in Charlotte specifically, there are SO many run clubs that you can be a part of, whether you're just starting your running journey or you've been logging miles for years. But if you're looking to find a few clubs that are particularly beginner-friendly, here are a few of your best bets:

NoDa Run Club

When: Wednesdays at 6:30 PM

Where: 2921 N. Tryon St.

Distance: 1, 3, or 5 miles

Why it's great for beginners:  NoDa Run Club is the oldest brewery run club in Charlotte. What does that mean for you? That they know what they're doing! They've got years of experience working with new runners to help them get comfortable running in group settings, to improve their pace, and more. Not to mention that the run club leader, Carla, is an incredible resource and is always available to answer questions from runners both old and new!

Sycamore Brewing Run Club

When: Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Saturdays at 12 PM

Where: 2161 Hawkins St.

Distance: 1, 3, or 5 miles

Why it's great for beginners: While there are groups of people who choose from the 1-, 3-, and 5-mile routes, this out-and-back run follows the Light Rail Trail, meaning that you can simply turn around whenever you've reached your personal "halfway point" and complete your run at the distance that feels achievable to you. Plus, runners get 25% off of beer in the taproom afterwards, which is an easy reward to work toward (and makes the whole thing feel much less intimidating).

Divine Barrel Brewing Run Club (AKA "Run DBB")

When: Thursdays at 6:30 PM

Where: 3701 N. Davidson St.

Distance: 1, 2, and 3 miles

Why it's great for beginners: With all three route options clocking in under three miles, this NoDa neighborhood run club was made to be approachable for beginners and longtime runners alike! Plus, you get a free "Run DBB" shirt after you've completed 10 runs, which gives you the motivation to build and stick with your running habit until you're no longer even in the "beginner" category anymore.

Lenny Boy Run Club (AKA "LBRC")

When: Sundays at 11 AM

Where: 3000 S. Tryon St.

Distance: 1, 3, or 5 miles

Why it's great for beginners: This run club is comprised of an incredibly approachable group of people, including the leader Nick, who will make you feel welcome from Day One. Many friendships (and love stories!) have been born out of this group, so if you're looking for some social reinforcement to keep you accountable for your running goals, this is a great place to start!

Bold Missy Brewery Run Club

When: Tuesdays at 6:30 PM

Where: 610 Anderon St.

Distance: 5 miles, 3 miles, 1.5 miles, or a 0.5-mile interval workout loop

Why it's great for beginners:  If you're working on transitioning from a strength training routine to running, this is the perfect spot to do it! You can start with the half-mile option and work your way up week after week. Plus, all runners receive 50% off our gourmet hot dogs and flatbreads after they return to the taproom, which just adds more motivation for you to make it through your workout!

Wooden Robot Brewery Run Club (AKA "RunBots")

When: Tuesdays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 9:30 AM

Where: 1440 S. Tryon St.

Distance: 1, 3, or 5 miles

Why it's great for beginners: This South End run club is an intimate group of people who are passionate about running and beer. Not only can you meet twice a week to build your running practice, but you can work toward the goal of completing the annual South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run with the RunBots at Wooden Robot Brewery as well!
