As much as we love brewery hopping our way through active, beer-centric cities,  sometimes we just want to spend a relaxing evening at home playing games with friends.

Not only does hosting an at-home game night help you save money compared to going out to breweries and bars — it’s also an opportunity to challenge your skills, test your knowledge, laugh out loud at ridiculous situations, and get to know your friends even better.

We’re big fans of popping a date on the good ol’ Google Calendar and sending out an invite to all of our friends for a game night at home that says, “Game Night. BYOB. Be there or be square.” (Maybe not that last part).

But of course, the key to a successful game night is having some badass games to play. No Monopoly or Yahtzee, yuck — opt for one these insanely awesome games instead, and get ready for a night of fun.

Our Top 5 Favorite Party Games

Buzzed

If you’re not so into strategy games or one-upping each other on the comedy scale, then Buzzed is the game for you. Set-up takes about two seconds, and there’s only one rule in this game: do what the card tells you to do. The prompts are hilarious, and you’ll learn new things about everyone you’re playing with.

Codenames

Code Names

If you’re looking for a little more of a challenge — but a fun one — consider Codenames. In this game, your team’s “spymaster” will offer one-word clues that relate to one word (or multiple words) on the board, trying to get you to guess words relating to your team’s color. But beware: guess words that relate to the opposing team’s color, and your opponents will be one step closer to winning.

Utter Nonsense

A “Cards Against Humanity” style game, Utter Nonsense is a game in which the “judge” of each round will select an accent from the pile — think Redneck, Valley Girl, Pirate, and more — and each of the rest of the players will choose the card from their hand that they think would sound the best or funniest when read in that accent.

And don’t worry about being embarrassed by your accent abilities: every player except the judge will need to read a card aloud in the accent selected, so you’re all in it together!

Watch Ya’ Mouth

You’ve probably seen this game featured on Good Morning America, Buzzfeed’s “The Try Guys,” and more — and that’s because watching other people try to speak with these mouthpieces in makes for absolutely hilarious content.

You’ll try to say things like “Muppet Babies” or “Woolly Willy really waddles wildly” while wearing a (thankfully dishwasher safe) dental-grade mouthpiece, and your team will have to guess what you’re trying to say.

Warning: you may laugh so hard you cry — we definitely have.

Cards Against Humanity

Last but certainly not least: If you haven’t played Cards Against Humanity yet, you have to have been living under a rock. This self-proclaimed “party game for horrible people” basically started an entirely new genre of party game. And if you think you’ve already seen all of the cards, think again — there are nearly endless expansion packs to add on, including The Absurd Box, The ‘90s Nostalgia Pack, The Pride Pack, and many more.
