A Perfect Weekend in Richmond, VA If You Love Craft Beer & Being Active

Let's take a quick trip down memory lane, shall we? When Mel and I launched Work For Your Beer in December 2016, we both lived in the same city: Charlotte, NC.

Since then, my husband Andrew and I have moved to Richmond, VA which is about a 4.5-hour drive from Charlotte.

But luckily, Mel loves a) hanging out with me and b) traveling to cities with awesome craft beer scenes, so she's made the drive to Richmond a few times now to explore with me all the fantastic spots and activities it has to offer.

Thinking of taking a trip to Richmond? Keep reading for our top recommendations on where to stay and what to eat, drink, see, and do while you're there, particularly if you're into outdoor activities and tasting craft beer!

WHERE TO STAY

Although Mel would usually just stay in our guest room, we decided for this trip to experience the city like I didn't live there — so, we reached out to Quirk Hotel in Richmond's Arts District to plan a weekend stay.

We were immediately attracted to a few things about Quirk, starting with its stellar location. It is situated within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and shops, and they offer valet, so it was easy to come and go from the property as needed when we explored breweries outside of the walkable downtown area of Richmond.

Beyond that, the interior design at Quirk Hotel was exquisite. Just stepping into the lobby we were greeted by elegant velvet couches, modern chairs and tables, ample plant life, and millennial pink everything.

But of course, that all makes sense when you realize Quirk Hotel is also home to Quirk Gallery, an urban art gallery that typically hosts two rotating exhibitions at a time (one in the Main Gallery, one in the Pink Gallery) as well as a shop full of items crafted by artists of local, regional, and national renown.

We're not here to tell you to spend your entire Richmond weekend hanging out at your hotel (especially when there are so many fun things to do!), but we'd be remiss if we didn't suggest that you at least enjoy one meal at The Lobby Bar and one drink up on the Q Rooftop.

Not only can we guarantee that both will be delicious based on our own experiences, but we can also guarantee that both are begging to be Instagrammed!
