Brewery Spotlight: Booneshine Brewing Company
We love getting to know the breweries that make up the ever-growing craft brewing industry — which is why we started our “Brewery Spotlight” blog series.
With each post in this series, you'll get to know some of our favorite craft breweries, as well as what led them to become such a staple in the craft beer community.
In this brewery spotlight, we were fortunate to chat with Tim Herdklotz, President of Booneshine Brewing Company out of Boone, NC.
Work For Your Beer (WFYB): We are so excited to learn more about Booneshine. When did you open, and what is your most popular beer style?
Tim (T): We opened in 2015, and our most popular beers are our IPAs, Pilsner, and Amber
WFYB: What is your favorite beer you've ever brewed?
T: Our East Boone Pilsner
WFYB: We'll need to get our hands on a can or two of those. What would you say is the weirdest beer you've ever made?
T: In 2021, we made a beer called, “Champagne in the Membrane”. The description was: “A hybrid, experimental, and definitely non-traditional take on a "Champagne Ale". Virginia malt and German wheat blended with Viognier Grapes makes this a juicy white wine like ale.” It turned out great!
WFYB: Insane (in the membrane)! I would definitely give that a shot. Pivoting to one of our staple questions: if you had to make the *perfect* six-pack, what would you include in it?
T:
WFYB: How do you support and give back to the Boone community — tell us a little bit more about that.
T: Giving back to the community is in our DNA. Our mission at Booneshine is to: “Make the High Country a better place by serving great beer, great food, with great service in a great environment.” If we do our jobs well, community happens here. Over the last 5 years, Booneshine has supported over 50 local organizations and charities.
WFYB:We love to hear that! Community is so important. What’s one fact people don’t know about your brewery, beer, or taproom, etc.?
T:
We partner and support Appalachian State Fermentation Sciences and Ivory Tower Brewing by doing quarterly collaboration brews. Proceeds go back to the university.
WFYB: Oh that is really interesting! We will have to learn more about that in the future! Now, let's talk brewery activities. What are y'all hosting these days?
T: Trivia - Wednesdays at 7, East Boone Running Club meets every Thursday at 5:30 pm, BBQ Saturdays in the beer garden (Spring - Fall)
WFYB: What makes your brewery unique? Why should someone stop by your taproom versus the others in Boone?
T: We have a beautiful taproom and restaurant located in East Boone next to Brookshire Park. The location includes indoor seating, patio dining, and a large outdoor beer garden served by our own food truck.
WFYB: Lastly, why do you support the #WorkForYourBeer mantra?
T: We are honored to be part of the craft brewing industry. Making great beer requires hard work and attention to detail. Sharing a pint with a coworker, family member, or friend provides the reward and motivation to do it again, over and over. Thanks for supporting craft beer!
WFYB: Cheers to everyone that supports the craft beer community!
Huge thanks to Tim for taking the time to tell us more about Booneshine with us here on the Work For Your Beer blog.
If you ever find yourself in Boone looking for a good brewery with incredible views, we highly recommend checking out their taproom.
