Brewery Spotlight: Resident Culture Brewing Co. in Charlotte, NC

We love getting to know the breweries that make up the ever-growing craft brewing industry — which is why we started our new “Brewery Spotlight” blog series.

With each post in this series, you'll get to know some of our favorite craft breweries, as well as what led them to become such a staple in the craft beer community.

This week, we spoke to Chelsi Architzel, the Marketing Coordinator of Resident Culture in Charlotte, NC.

Resident Culture Brewing Charlotte, NC

Work For Your Beer (WFYB): We are so happy to chat with you, Chelsi. Let's just jump into some questions! What year did Resident Culture open?

Chelsi  (C): 2017

WFYB: What’s the most popular beer style you sell?

C: Juicy, hazy IPA's!

WFYB: What beer are you most proud of brewing?

C: “Riding For The Feeling” - Lagers are one of the hardest styles to make and we've taken a lot of time to dial our process in. Our flagship pils is the culmination of this work.

WFYB: We'll have to give it a try! Changing directions for a moment ... what is the weirdest beer you’ve ever made (whether you sold it or not)?

C: “Hot Takes: No One Likes Candy Corn” - a kettle sour brewed with 20+ pounds of Sour Patch Kids

WFYB:Oooh I can already feel my tongue tingling! We love the weird beers. Now... if you had to make the *perfect* mixed six-pack, what beers would you include in it?

C: My perfect six-pack would be

  1. Squirrel Friends - Kettle Sour with Coconut, Guava, and Tangerine

  2. PJ Party - Hoppy Pilsner

  3. Lightning Drops - our Flagship Hazy IPA

  4. Static God - India Pale Lager

  5. There Is No Light Without The Dark - Schwarzbier

  6. Brother Flower - Fresh Hopped IPA

WFYB: We love learning how craft breweries help out their local communities. How would you say Resident Culture contributes to the Charlotte community?

C: We love to host events that focus on supporting our community. We recently hosted our first-ever Pride Prom, where everybody was welcome to attend! We have Nerd Nights every Monday, and host Plaza Midwood Food Truck Friday every Friday night. We are happy to sponsor the Carolinas LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce, as well as sponsor the Newtype cycling team!

WFYB: Speaking of community: what brewery activities and fitness events do you host?

C: We do Resident Culture Run Club every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm!

WFYB: Now, how about one fact people don’t know about Resident Culture?

C: We have an in-house artist that does ALL of our label art! She is the brains behind all of our vibes @spud.cowboy

WFYB: Well that explains a lot! Now, what makes Resident Culture unique? Why should someone stop by your brewery versus the many other breweries in Charlotte, NC?

C: For us - it is about more than beer. We are committed to creating a space that is welcoming and inclusive for everybody that comes inside - a second home. The beer we brew is just a plus. :)

WFYB: We love an inclusive environment and good beer! Lastly, why do you support the #WorkForYourBeer mantra?

C: We believe that everybody should feel good AND drink beer, in whatever way that looks for them!

WFYB:We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
