Low-Cal Beers Are Evolving, and We Are Here For It

When you think of low-cal beers, you're probably thinking of the cheap, watered-down, beer-flavored beer you chugged at an overcrowded frat party in college. Don't get me wrong, Natty Light has its role in the beer world, but we're here to tell you: you have options.

Craft breweries are rapidly changing the beer game for those who are looking for lighter brews. If you've been following Work For Your Beer for a while now, you've seen a variety of low-calorie IPAs featured. But there's a new kid on the block, and we are ecstatic to introduce you.

Independence Brewing Co. Rosebud out of Austin, TX

Meet Independence Brewing Co.'s “Better For You” Beer Series.

While the Independence Brewing team was looking for ways to re-energize themselves after a full year in a global pandemic, they came up with a brilliant idea.

They state, "Today, beer consumers are thirsty for brews that offer additional benefits without sacrificing quality, taste, and experience. That’s why Independence Brewing Co. has created their new Blueberry Açaí Lime Redbud, a superfood-infused Berliner Weisse."

Excuse us? A light beer. With superfoods. And it's a BERLINER WEISSE? Sign us up!

At 125 calories per can and 4.6% ABV, this brew packs a punch of flavor. You would never know it was a "healthy" option when comparing it to other similar styles.

The Independence Brewing Co. team also offers some suggested food pairings. They say, "This Berliner Weisse pairs best alongside a berry and blue cheese salad, ahi tuna poke, blueberry pancakes or frozen açaí and granola bowl."

And this is only the first beer of the series! They will be releasing additional flavors, like Paloma and Pomegranate Green Tea, later this year.
