The Perfect Weekend in Savannah, GA for Active, Craft-Beer Lovers

Savannah, GA, is a dream destination for those who crave a mix of activity, history, and incredible craft beverages. With its walkable streets, lush parks, and thriving local beer scene, Savannah is perfect for an adventurous weekend getaway. Here's how to make the most of your trip.

Where to Stay

The Thompson Savannah is the epitome of Southern elegance with a modern twist. Located along the Savannah River, this luxurious hotel offers spacious rooms, an incredible rooftop bar, and close proximity to the city's historic district (we were able to walk almost everywhere we went on this trip!). After a day of exploring, unwind at the pool or indulge in locally inspired (and farm-to-table) dishes at their on-site restaurant. I’ve never had a bad stay at a Thompson — and this was no exception.

Below was the view from our room, which was ahhh-mazing!

What to Do

Savannah for Morons Tour
Start your weekend with this unique, hilarious tour that delves into Savannah's rich history and quirky past. Equal parts educational and entertaining (okay, it’s actually quite a bit more on the entertaining side), it’s the perfect tour for a core workout because you’ll be laughing nonstop.

True Crime Pub Crawl – The Original Savannah Murder Tour by Mad Cat Tours
Explore Savannah’s darker side with this true crime pub crawl. You’ll learn about the city’s most infamous murders and hauntings while sampling drinks at some of its historic pubs.

SCAD Museum of Art
Dive into Savannah's creative culture at the SCAD Museum of Art, featuring contemporary exhibits and works from up-and-coming artists at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Forsyth Park
No visit to Savannah is complete without time spent in Forsyth Park. With 30 acres of green space, it’s ideal for a scenic bike ride, a leisurely stroll, or a picturesque picnic. Below is a photo of the iconic fountain (clearly, we went in December, and the the park was absolutely decked out for the holiday season).

What to Drink

Two Tides Brewing
Don’t miss this woman-owned brewery, known for its creative small-batch beers. With a laid-back vibe and innovative brews like fruited sours and hazy IPAs, Two Tides is a must-visit for any craft beer lover.

Service Brewing Co.
Veteran-owned and community-focused, Service Brewing Co. pairs a commitment to great beer with a mission to support local causes. Their taproom often features live music, making it a lively stop on your Savannah beer tour.

Tandem Coffee & Spirits
If you’re in the mood for something different, check out Tandem Coffee & Spirits. This cozy spot combines expertly crafted cocktails, specialty coffee, and a rotating selection of craft beers for a little bit of everything. This was a stop on our True Crime tour, and their “Fallgarita” was one of my favorite drinks of the weekend!

Other Notable Things About Savannah

Savannah’s charm doesn’t stop at its beer scene or historic tours. Here are a few unique perks of visiting this city:

  • Open-Container Law: You can sip your drink as you stroll through the streets, making Savannah one of the most laid-back destinations for enjoying a cocktail or craft beer. Just note: some parts of Savannah can tiptoe into New Orleans-style evenings (AKA a bit chaotic!).

  • Picture-Perfect Streets: From cobblestone lanes to Spanish moss-draped oaks, Savannah’s streets are some of the most beautiful in the country. Keep your camera handy!

A weekend in Savannah is a refreshing blend of activity, culture, and delicious craft beverages. Whether you’re biking through Forsyth Park, exploring the local beer scene, or soaking in the city’s history, Savannah has everything you need for a perfect getaway. Start planning your trip today and prepare to fall in love with this Southern gem.
