4 Things You Should Add to Your Physical Self-Care Routine

The past two years have been tough, with a report finding that 80% of American adults experienced emotions associated with prolonged stress. One way that people have been looking out for themselves is through self-care.

“Self-care” has been a buzzword for a few years now, as people realize the importance of being their best self. A past article highlights that there are five dimensions to this practice, namely mental, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional.

The physical aspect of self-care is important because “taking care of your body is immediately rewarding.” If you are physically unwell, then this may reflect on the other aspects of your well-being. If you want to look out for yourself, here are some of the things you can add to your routine:

Practicing Yoga

For many, workouts may be doing cardio or weightlifting, but yoga is actually quite effective. It is a practice that focuses on developing strength and flexibility through different stretches and breathing exercises. Many have also found it to be mentally relieving because of its relaxing nature.

The great thing about yoga is that it is not too tiring to do after a long day, which makes it the perfect form of physical activity for those who may have busy schedules. It can also be done throughout the day for those who may not have the time to workout in one go. Not only can you build your strength, these movements can also help relieve pains and aches. You can add this to your physical self-care routine to keep your body fit and strong.

Home Cooking Meals

Food can greatly affect your body and how well you perform which is why it is important to eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Fruits and vegetables should be part of all your meals, as they offer the most benefits, are extremely filling, and are also low in calories. Be sure to not skip on carbs (we know, carb fear is real), but you need to eat them in moderation so you can keep your energy levels up.

Protein is also important. Whether you eat meat or are vegan, keep an eye on your protein intake!

Making your meals at home helps you control the vitamins and nutrients you are consuming, while you avoid any unhealthy additions restaurants may add into your takeout.

A Good Skincare Routine

Many people have associated skincare with the concept of self-care, and it’s for good reason. Aside from working out, taking care of your skin is a great way to not only look good but feel good.

Try creating an anti-aging skincare routine. Products that contain retinol will be able to help with cell turnover, making your skin look younger and brighter. Amino acids like peptides help produce collagen and elastin, making your face firmer and lessening fine lines.

Physical self-care means taking care of every part of your body, and your skin is a huge part of yourself.

Naps(!)

It may seem counterproductive for many to take naps during the day, but it can actually be a big help. Taking a short break to sleep has many proven benefits for your physical and mental health. It helps improve cognitive function and energy levels throughout the day, meaning you might even be able to perform better at your tasks.

Aside from this, having enough rest daily can help improve your mood and overall mental state. When possible, take a short 15 or 30-minute break to refresh and re-energize yourself.

Nap for Self Care

As a bonus, if you're looking for something to help with your mental health, you can also try playing Solitaire for anxiety and stress relief.

There are a variety of ways to tap into self-care. Be sure to keep yourself healthy and happy using these tips to promote better overall mental and physical health.

Cheers to self-care!
